Letter | Wind projects will benefit Columbia County communities

The Cap Times | October 29, Laurel Randall

Dear Editor: As a resident of Columbia County and a proud union carpenter, I am excited to see more wind energy coming to Wisconsin, and in my community.

The Columbia County Wind Project by Alliant Energy is a powerful investment in Columbia County, organized labor and a clean energy future for Wisconsinites. I appreciate that this project is being led by Alliant Energy, which has a history of partnering with union labor on similar projects. When companies partner with union workers, they get quality craftsmanship and a workforce trained to meet the highest safety and performance standards that bring value to Columbia County.

This means, family-sustaining jobs for skilled tradespeople like me who take pride in building the infrastructure that powers our state.

The Columbia County Wind Project is projected to generate over $100 million in tax revenue, landowner payments, wages and other benefits over its lifetime. It will also create an estimated 200 union construction jobs that offer great wages, benefits, and the opportunity to support our families and communities.

It’s also a chance for younger workers entering the trades to gain hands-on experience on a project that reflects the clean and sustainable future of power generation in Wisconsin.
