A recently released report by the Department of Energy in the United States has shed light on the growth of clean energy jobs, particularly in the state of Indiana. According to the report, nationwide clean energy jobs increased by almost 4% over the past year, surpassing the overall job growth rate in the country. Indiana also experienced a growth rate of over 3% in clean energy jobs.

The report highlights the dominance of large solar projects in Indiana’s clean energy sector. Laura Ann Arnold, President of the Indiana Distributed Energy Alliance, mentioned that the data from the report indicates robust development in utility-scale solar projects.

In Indiana, the clean energy sector currently supports over 96,000 jobs. These jobs span various areas such as renewable energy generation, grid modernization and storage, efficiency upgrades, and clean vehicle manufacturing.

Indiana is mainly connected to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator’s electric grid. Although the Energy Department’s report is based on last year’s numbers, Arnold suggested that examining planned grid connections provides a more up-to-date understanding of upcoming projects in the region. She pointed out that the MISO interconnection queue for solar projects alone reveals a significant number of 15,000 megawatts, indicating substantial future developments.

Nationally, the Department of Energy’s report shows that the energy sector has recovered 71% of the jobs lost during the pandemic. However, there has been a shift in the distribution of jobs across different clean energy technologies.

Overall, the report highlights the growth of clean energy jobs in Indiana and the promising potential for further advancements in the future.
